A Community-Driven Food Collective.

The SHED is a multi story food production and storage facility that has been designed to support local farmers, culinary entrepreneurs, and island residents.

Built as part of the Community Economic Recovery Program this multi-story building will feature climate-controlled root cellars, a certified commercial kitchen, food processing areas, seed library, orchard, tool library and a community marketplace. Educating locals and visitors with a focus on traditional island, and indigenous agricultural practices. 

We envision a buzzing hub of cullinary innovation with shared access to all of the pasturization, labelling and packaging equipment needed to run a thriving food business.

We are working to create a place to preserve, process, share and sell locally produced food. Celebrating the talented community on Hornby Island, and improving access to our local abundace.

What We’re Building

  • Root Cellar

    An expansive root cellar with space to store grains, preserves and root vegetables.

  • Commercial Kitchen

    Fully certified commercial kitchen with dedicated space in the cool room and pantry.

  • Baking Room

    A temperature controlled baking room with everything you need to make fresh flours and baked goods.

  • Curing Room

    Humidity & Temperature controlled for making cheese and cured meats.

  • Growers Market

    A space to sell your island goods. A portion of the profit will go to the Farmland Trust to sustain the facilities.

  • Workshop Space

    A dedicated space for knowledge sharing and skill training.
